With decades of experience, we are happy to help you with any aspect of your school website(s), from simple content updates, to building you a brand new, custom-designed site. We can be as involved as you wish, either becoming, or providing a “backstop” to, your existing web team.
No more stress if your current web manager suddenly becomes unavailable!
Long before school websites became a necessity, our team at Notley were building and maintaining websites for both our own and other organisations. Indeed, 20 years ago we built one of the first school Virtual Learning Environments in the country (“NELT” – Notley Enhancing Learning through Technology) for our school, enabling all staff to update learning resources from any browser.
Fairly standard for schools now – cutting edge in the early 2000s!
Our website development workflow has changed markedly over the decades, from hand coding almost every aspect of the site’s core, to now using publicly-available open source core technologies (primarily Joomla) as a foundation, and then extending this with suitable plugins. Using such a platform has several major advantages over hand coding or using proprietary code from a commercial company.
Building on an externally developed and maintained core allows far more efficient use of any web team’s time versus hand coding. The team can concentrate on customising and updating the site(s), rather than having to keep up with the almost-constant changes in web and browser standards.
Using an open source technology, such as Joomla, means that the website itself isn’t tied to any one company’s development priorities…or indeed their continued existence. The entire site can be backed up and transferred to any hosting service in the world within a matter of hours. Custom plugins are available from literally hundreds of companies to tailor sites to an organisation’s specific needs, and it allows complete flexibility over design and structure as your site grows and adapts over time.
All sites can be maintained and updated by any member of staff (with the correct permissions obviously) from any standard browser. It really is as simple as typing your information in a box and choosing "save".
We have provided links below to just some of the sites we have built/updated recently.
Note: some of these sites are personal projects / sites built and maintained by the team outside work time.
We like to practice what we preach!
